2nd February 2026
We’re pleased to share the latest progress from our teams working on the M3 and Gole Road areas.
Work along Gole Road has moved forward significantly over the past week. The southbound widening is now largely complete, with kerbs and edgings finished and the new bus stop and layby fully installed. Drainage improvements have also progressed well, with road gulleys and channels now in place, and the relocation of the BT telegraph pole successfully carried out. Surfacing works have begun too, with the base and binder layers of asphalt already laid.
The next stage will involve switching the traffic management to the opposite side of the road so that reconstruction of the north‑side footpath can begin. Looking ahead, the final road surfacing is planned for late February. This final phase will require a full road closure overnight, and we will share more details once the dates are confirmed to help everyone plan their journeys.
Progress has also continued at the M3 Junction, where most of the key installations are now complete. Pedestrian barriers are in place, traffic signal poles have been installed, and the footpath surfacing has been finished. The widening of the carriageway has also advanced, with the base and binder layers now laid.
Over the next few weeks, the site will move into its final stages. Night‑time road closures will be be taking place from 2nd to 7th February while new surfacing is applied to the westbound carriageway. Following this, road lining and markings will be added, and traffic sensor loops will be installed in preparation for the commissioning of the upgraded traffic signals.
Night‑Time Road Closure – M3 Junction 3
Overnight resurfacing works will be taking place between 2nd and 7th February, which will require a full closure of the A322 northbound approach to the M3 junction 3 roundabout.
The closure will be in place from 8pm to 6am each night. We appreciate that any closure can cause disruption, and we thank road users for their patience while this important work is carried out.
To help you plan your journey, full details of the diversion route, closure plan, is available on the dedicated M3 Junction 3 page.
Please note that the programme may be subject to change at short notice if weather conditions affect the resurfacing schedule. Any updates will be shared as soon as they are available.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these essential works.
19th January 2026
Work is progressing well across the Gole Road and M3 Junction (A322) improvement schemes, with several key activities now well underway.
Our teams are progressing with the carriageway widening, which includes ongoing placement and compaction of fill materials. Alongside this, final kerbs and edgings are being installed at key pedestrian crossing points. To minimise disruption, night-time lane closures on the M3 slip road are facilitating kerb works on the roundabout and allowing completion of the North Footpath omission.
Preparatory activity is also moving forward as planned. This includes the removal of footpaths and drop kerbs to the north, ahead of an upcoming switch in traffic management, which will enable works to begin on the south side of the western section. Additional progress includes the connection of the final gully, completion of lamp column installations, and continued traffic signal decommissioning and commissioning. SSEN is also advancing the installation of a new power supply for the upgraded signal system.
Looking ahead, new road surfacing is scheduled to begin at the end of January. To ensure this work can be carried out safely and efficiently, surfacing will take place during both day and night shifts. Please be aware that full road closures will be required for parts of this programme. Further details and advance notifications will be provided to help road users plan their journeys.
5th January 2026
We’re pleased to share the latest progress from our teams working on the M3 and Gole Road areas.
On the M3, the new central footway and pedestrian crossing have been installed, along with lighting columns and signalling equipment. Kerbs are now in place along the western side, and widening works will continue toward the roundabout in the New Year. To safely undertake critical works, night-time operations are scheduled to commence on 12 January. The project team aims to complete the majority of this activity within five consecutive night shifts to minimise disruption to road users.
Over at Gole Road, the bulk excavation is complete and the revised road foundation has been installed. Kerb installation is underway, and work has started on the upgraded bus waiting area and lay-by. In addition, coordination is underway to relocate the existing BT pole currently positioned within the footprint of the planned road widening works. This relocation will allow the next phase of construction to proceed without interruption.
Thank you for your continued patience and support. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a happy New Year. We’ll keep you updated as works advance in the weeks ahead.
15th December 2025
We’re pleased to share the latest progress from our teams working on the M3 and Gole Road areas.
On the M3, traffic management was lifted on Friday 12th December and will remain off over Christmas. It will be reinstated overnight between 4th and 5th January. Kerbs have now been installed up to the existing crossing point, and the new road has been dug to formation and capped, ready for the sub-base. Installation of pedestrian guard rails is ongoing, and new lamp columns have been successfully put in place.
Over at Gole Road, BT works are now 90% complete, and all other services have been diverted. Around 80% of the new road has been dug to formation and capped, ready for the sub-base. With these milestones achieved, works in this area are now coming to a stop.
Thank you for your continued patience, we hope you have a lovely Christmas and we’ll keep you updated as things progress in the new year.
1st December 2025
At Gole Road the BT duct lowering works are currently in progress. The verge box has been demolished, and a new carriageway box is being installed to suit the revised road layout. The telegraph pole will be relocated, and the fibre optic cable extended to the new pole. Once these works are complete, excavation will begin for the full-depth reconstruction of the new road.
On the M3 junction, kerbs have been installed on the east side, as well as at the crossing point on the west. Gullies are now in place, and work has started on the tactile paving for the new crossing point. Edging installation near the roundabout has also commenced. Formation digging to achieve the new carriageway depth on the west approach to Junction 3 is underway, with plans to bring the surface up to tarmac level before the Christmas embargo.
26th November 2025
We’re pleased to confirm that works at M3 Junction 3 and Gole Road remain on programme. To help reduce disruption during the festive period these works will be paused over Christmas. We have agreed with Surrey County Council that the works will be stopped during the following dates:
- M3 Junction 3
Pause period: 13 December 2025 – 4 January 2026
All traffic management will be removed during this time, and no works will take place. -
Gole Road

At Gole Road, the gas diversion has now been completed, marking a significant milestone in the works. The high-voltage electric cable has been laid and is scheduled to be energised today. BT diversion works are planned to commence from 18th November, ensuring continued progress on utility adjustments. Backfilling of trenches is ongoing and will continue as each section is completed by the relevant utility company.
On the M3 junction, site clearance to formation level is progressing well, alongside kerbing works at the new crossing point in the central reservation. Chambers and ducting installation for the crossing point are also underway. The installation of Trief kerbs on the southern arm of the central reservation is starting today. Two gullies have already been installed, supporting drainage improvements in the area.
4th November 2025
At Gole Road, vegetation clearance has now been completed. The road crossing and ducting for the new 11kV electric cable have been installed, and the gas diversion is in place. We are currently waiting for SGN to carry out the final switch from the old service to the new one. All diversion routes and joint bays have been dug and are ready for the installation of the new services.
On the M3, two gullies have been installed and a pedestrian crossing point has been created on the southern side of the site. The final layer of tarmac will be added once all other works are fully complete. Traffic signal cables have been installed halfway across the road and will be fully connected shortly. Traffic Management in the area has changed slightly with a lane closure now added on the roundabout. The new traffic management plan is available on the M3 webpage. The old pedestrian guard rail has been removed from the southern side, and traffic management was switched last night to allow work to begin on the central reservation and widening section.
