Gole Road / Dawney Hill Works

Click here for the latest news on our local junction improvement works.

As part of our wider infrastructure upgrades, improvement works began at the Gole Road / Dawney Hill junction on Monday 13 October 2025. Once completed, these works are designed to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users.

🛠️ What’s Changing?

To improve traffic flow and reduce delays Dawney Hill is being widened to create a new two-lane northbound approach, including a dedicated left-turn lane into Gole Road. An illustration of the scheme is below and it includes the following improvement works:

    • Dedicated left turn lane
    • Improved footpaths
    • A layby area
    • A tactile pedestrian crossing
    • Enhanced bus stop accessibility

🚧 Traffic Management

To carry out these works safely:

  • A 24/7 northbound road closure is in place on Dawney Hill from Caterham Close.
  • Signed diversion routes are available via the A322 Bagshot Road.
  • A full closure of Dawney Hill and the Gole Road junction will occur Monday to Friday between 09:30 and 15:00, outside of school run hours to minimise disruption.
  • A full overnight closure will be required in January 2026 to complete resurfacing. Further details will be shared closer to the time.

🔀 Diversion Routes

The northbound lane will be closed for the full duration of the works. During this closure, two diversion route options are available for northbound traffic:

Southbound traffic on Dawney Hill will be temporarily restricted Monday to Friday, between 9:30am and 3:00pm. During these hours, a separate southbound diversion route will be in place:

Please follow all posted signage and allow extra time for your journey. We appreciate your patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
